Botanical Gardens & Biodome - 03/2013 - Part 2

Montreal is known for it's Olympic Stadium, which is just besides the famous Botanical Gardens, the Biodome and the newly reopened Planetarium. It is a great place to hang out during a day off and there are activities for everyone.

Biodome

The Biodome recreates different ecosystems of the Americas for different animal species. Apart from the fishes in water tanks and a few dangerous animals, most animals are free to roam in the room. Some have a designated area if they are dependent on water.

The Tropical Rainforest

The Tropical Rainforest represent the South American jungles and host many animals, from fishes to crocodiles, including parrots and monkeys of all kind. Unfortunately, because of the very humid environment,  I couldn't get many clear pictures.

The Laurentian Maple Forest

These are the forests I know and grew up with. The animals are very familiar, like the beaver, the otters, the porcupines, lynxes...

The Gulf of St. Lawrence

The Gulf of St. Lawrence is a huge sea-like area between two coast up to the Atlantic ocean. Most of animals are underwater and you can them through the glasss of a huge tank. Once you climb up, you get to see the rocks and the birds living in the area.

The Labardor Coast

The Labrador Coast is very rocky and cool. The most common animal is the Atlantic puffin, but there are a few different species living there.

The Sub-Antartic Islands

To the south of South America, the Antartic reaches in form of islands. There, you can find a few penguin species.
